Every year, in the Catholic regions of Germany around Epiphany, the 'Sternsinger' visit homes. The children dressed as the three Wise Men from the East - Caspar, Melchior, and Balthasar - are eagerly awaited. They sing songs and bestow their blessing, which is written with chalk on the doorframe so that the house and its inhabitants are spared from harm. Where the Sternsinger have already visited, one therefore reads '20*C+M+B+19'. Many thousands of Sternsinger collect every year, not only in Bavaria, for children in need - often despite snow and bitter cold. As a tribute to the world's largest charitable solidarity campaign, the Hummel Manufactory created the expressive figure 'Sternsinger'. The hardworking Hummel children are a collaborative effort of our modelers: master modeler Marion Huschka as well as Anette Barth and Tamara Fuchs contributed their experience. The result is an impressively lively figure. Our Little carol singers have been on their way for a long time: Tired, the smallest of the three wise men leans against his larger companion, having already let his container with the precious incense drop. The tall one has placed his hand protectively on the back of his protégé, supporting him with his body. He sings his song with fervor. The third of the group, Caspar, looks on concernedly at the little sleeper: Will he make it through the last round? Since 1935, the popular Hummel figures have traditionally been handmade 'Made in Germany' at the location in Rödental, Franconia. In doing so, the Hummel manufactory is guided by the original drawings of the Franciscan sister M.I. Hummel from the Sießen monastery. Maria Innocentia Hummel's real name was Berta Hummel, and she came from Massing in Bavaria. As the best in her class, she completed ihr Studied at the State School of Applied Arts in Munich. Her drawings of children, whom she depicted during everyday activities, playing, or in nature, are world-famous. Only the Hummel Manufactory is authorized to use the drawings of the Franciscan nun Maria Innocentia Hummel as a template and inspiration for the design of the figures.
